August 25 (SeeNews) - The gross written premiums (GWP) of Moldovan insurers rose by an annual 18% to 1.398 billion lei ($78.3 million/72.2 million euro) in the first six months of 2023, the country's statistical office said on Friday.
Compensation and insurance payments amounted to 481.9 million lei in the first half of 2023, up by 15% on the year, the statistical office, BNS, said in a press release.
The pre-tax profit booked by Moldovan insurers in January-June jumped by 45% year-on-year to 232.9 million lei.
Revenues rose by an annual 27% to 2.263 billion lei, while expenses grew by 26%, reaching 2.030 billion lei.
Premiums from mandatory car insurance rose by 34% on the year to 691.4 million lei during the six months through June, while casco premiums grew by 20% to 254.1 million lei.
Health insurance premiums increased by an annual 17% to 65.6 million lei in the first quarter, while other general insurance premiums inched up by 0.8% to 166.4 million lei. Life insurance premiums decreased by an annual 3.6% to 45.9 million lei.
In 2022, the GWP of Moldovan insurers rose by an annual 28% to 2.472 billion lei.
