CHISINAU (Moldova), August 26 (SeeNews) – The gross written premiums (GWP) of Moldovan insurers jumped by an annual 40% to 878.3 million lei ($50 million/42 million euro) in the first half of 2021, the country's statistical office said on Thursday.
Compensation and insurance payments amounted to 312.3 million lei during the January-June period, up 2.5% as compared to the same period of 2020, the statistical office, BNS, said in a press release.
During the first half, Moldovan insurers posted a 102.6 million lei pre-tax profit, up 81% as compared to the first half of 2020. Revenues rose by an annual 17.4% to 1.26 billion lei, while expenses were 13.8% higher on the year at 1.02 billion lei.
Premiums from mandatory car insurance rose by 39.3% on the year to 389.2 million lei at the end of June, while casco premiums grew 42.6% to 187.9 million lei. Other property insurance premiums doubled on the year to 117.2 million lei in the first half of 2020.
Premiums from life insurance on the Moldovan market fell 7.9% year-on-year to 43.9 million lei in the six months through June.
In 2020, the GWP of Moldovan insurers fell by an annual 10.6% to 1.453 billion lei.
