August 19 (SeeNews) - The number of tourists staying in Moldova rose by 3.9% on the year in the first six months of 2019, reaching 156,370 the country's statistical office said on Monday.
As much as 27% of 78,940 foreign tourists who visited the country during January-June, arrived from Romania, 11.9% came from Ukraine, while Russian tourists accounted for 7.9%, the statistical office, BNS, said in a statement.
Tourists booked 623,300 overnights in Moldova during the first six months, down 2.2% on the year. Foreign tourists booked 176,418 overnights, a rise of 18.1% on the year.
During January-June, the average length of stay of a Moldovan tourist in the accommodation facilities in the country was 6.8 days, while foreign tourists stayed for 3.2 days on average.
In 2018, the number of tourists staying in Moldova rose by 8.1% on the year to 364,608.
