August 17 (SeeNews) - The number of tourists staying in Moldova rose by 12% on the year in the first half of the year, reaching 150,454, the country's statistical office said on Friday.
As much as 28.2% of 71,273 foreign tourists who visited the country during January-June, arrived from Romania, 12.2% came from Ukraine, while Russian tourists accounted for 8.3%, the statistical office, BNS, said in a statement.
Tourists booked 637,014 million overnights in Moldova during the first half, up 7.8% on the year. Foreign tourists booked 149,357 overnights, a rise of 14.2% on the year.
During January-June, the average length of stay of a Moldovan tourist in the accommodation facilities in the country was 5.2 days, while foreign tourists stayed for 3.1 days on average.
In 2017, the number of tourists staying in Moldova rose by 10.1% on the year to 337,207.
