August 18 (SeeNews) - Tourist arrivals in Moldova decreased by 18.7% on the year to 28,440 in the first half of 2009, with visitors from neighbouring Romania and Ukraine topping the list, Moldova's statistics bureau said on Tuesday.
More than 13% of all tourists came from Romania and 12.2% from Ukraine. Russia followed with a 11% share of total tourists in the first six months of the year, the bureau said in a statement.
The United States and Italy accounted for 6.8% and 6.7%, respectively, of all tourist arrivals.
Overnight stays fell by 32.1% on the year to 67,413 in the first half of 2009.
