September 15 (SeeNews) - Moldova's economy expanded by an annual 19.1% in real adjusted terms in the second quarter of 2021, with public administration, retail and mining as the main growth drivers, the statistical office said on Wednesday.
In unadjusted terms, Moldova's economic output grew by 21.5% in the second quarter, the statistical office said in a statement.
The sharp rise was due to a 14% real drop in the second quarter of 2020 compared to the like period of 2019.
Moldova's gross domestic product (GDP) totalled 57.7 billion lei ($3.3 billion/2.8 billion euro) at current prices in the second quarter.
Compared to the previous quarter, Moldova's GDP grew by a seasonally-adjusted 7% in the April-June period.
The gross value added in the economy rose 19.2% on the year in the second quarter, boosted by public administration, retail, mining and construction, IT&C, science and technical activities. Agriculture had a negative impact on GDP growth during the second quarter.
Final household consumption rose by 20.7% year-on-year in the second quarter, while gross fixed-capital formation increased 24.5% on the year.
Exports rose by an annual 10.7%, while imports increased by 52% in the second quarter.
In the first half of 2021, Moldova's GDP totalled 104.2 billion lei, growing 11.7% on the year.
Moldova's economy contracted by 7% in real terms in 2020, compared to 3.7% growth in the previous year.
