December 15 (SeeNews) - Moldova's economy expanded by an estimated 10.4% year-on-year in real adjusted terms in the third quarter of 2021, with growth driven mainly by retail, public administration and agriculture, the statistical office said on Wednesday.
The strong rise was due to a 9.7% real drop in the third quarter of 2020 compared to the like period of 2019, the statistical office said in a statement.
Moldova's gross domestic product (GDP) totalled 69.8 billion lei ($3.9 billion/3.5 billion euro) at current prices in the third quarter of 2021.
Compared to the previous quarter, Moldova's GDP fell 3% in the July-September period.
The gross value added in the economy rose 8.2% on the year in the third quarter, with growth driven by retail, public administration, agriculture, mining, IT&C, construction and real estate activities.
Final household consumption rose by 11.9% year-on-year in the third quarter, while gross fixed-capital formation increased by 2.1% on the year.
Exports rose by an annual 6.5%, while imports increased by 23% in the third quarter.
Moldova's GDP totalled 174.1 billion lei In the first nine months of 2021, up 10.3% on the year.
The country's economy contracted by 7% in real terms in 2020, compared to 3.7% growth in the previous year.
