March 16 (SeeNews) - Moldova's economy expanded by 3.6% in real terms in 2019, mainly on the back of successful performance of the wholesale and retail sector, the country's statistical office said on Monday.
Calculated at current prices, Moldova's gross domestic product (GDP) totalled 210.1 billion lei ($12 billion/11 billion euro) in 2019, the National Bureau of Statistics said in a statement, citing provisional data.
In the fourth quarter alone, Moldova's GDP totalled 54.9 billion lei - up 0.2% year-on-year but down by seasonally adjusted 1.2% compared to the third quarter.
GDP growth in 2019 was mainly driven by construction, wholesale and retail. Final household consumption expanded by 2.5%, while gross fixed-capital formation increased by 3.1%.
The country's 2020 budget targets economic growth of 3.8% and deficit equivalent to 3.25% of the projected GDP.
