October 11 (SeeNews) - Moldova's consumer prices rose 6.68% year-on-year in September, compared to an increase of 4.64% in the previous month, the National Bureau of Statistics, BNS, said on Monday.
The main inflation driver in September were food prices, which added 8.31% year-on-year, BNS said in a statement.
Prices of non-food products rose 8.62% on the year in September, while the cost of services increased by an annual 1.52%.
On a monthly comparison basis, Moldova's consumer prices rose 1.68% in September. Food prices rose 2.68%, while non-food prices were up by a monthly 1.54%. Consumer prices in the services sector added 0.46% month-on-month.
On October 5, Moldova's central bank, BNM, decided to raise its policy rate at 5.5% from 4.65%, invoking inflationary pressures as well as risks and uncertainty from the coronavirus pandemic.
