Moldova's consumer prices rose 4.64% year-on-year in August, compared to 3.49% in the previous month, the National Bureau of Statistics, BNS, said on Friday.
The main inflation driver in August were food prices, which added 4.83% year-on-year, BNS said in a statement.
Prices of non-food products rose 6.93% on the year in August, while the cost of services increased by an annual 1.02%.
On a monthly comparison basis, Moldova's consumer prices rose 0.33% in August. Food prices fell 0.53%, while non-food prices were up by a monthly 1.01%. Consumer prices in the services sector added 0.53% month-on-month.
On September 3, Moldova's central bank, BNM, decided to raise its policy rate at 4.65% from 3.65%, invoking inflationary pressures as well as risks and uncertainty from the coronavirus pandemic.
BNM expects 3.1% inflation in 2021 and 7% inflation in 2022, according to latest data from July.
