July 9 (SeeNews) - Moldova's consumer prices rose 3.16% year-on-year in June, compared to a 3.09% increase in the previous month, the National Bureau of Statistics, BNS, said on Friday.
The main inflation driver in June were food prices, which added 4.57% year-on-year, BNS said in a statement.
Prices of non-food products rose 5.16% on the year in June, while the cost of services decreased by an annual 1.53%.
On a monthly comparison basis, Moldova's consumer prices edged up 0.05% in June. Food prices fell 0.78%, while non-food prices were up by a monthly 0.70%. Consumer prices in the services sector added 0.28% month-on-month.
On June 8, Moldova's central bank, BNM, decided to maintain its policy rate at 2.65%, aiming to help relaunch economic activity and mitigate risks associated with a negative fiscal momentum amid growing political uncertainty.
BNM raised its 2021 inflation projection by 0.7 percentage points to 2.5% on May 5. The central bank targets annual inflation of 5% plus or minus 1.5 pp.
