April 11 (SeeNews) - Moldova's consumer price inflation accelerated to 5.1% year-on-year in March, from 4.7% in February, the National Bureau of Statistics, BNS, said on Tuesday.
On a monthly comparison basis, consumer prices rose 0.4% in March, after increasing 0.2% in February, BNS said in a statement.
In March, food prices were flat on the month and were 5.0% higher on the year.
Prices of non-food products increased by 0.1% on the month and rose 5.2% on the year.
Prices of public utility and transport services were up 1.5% month-on-month and increased by 5.1% on the year in March.
At its last monetary policy meeting held in March, Moldova's central bank, BNM, decided to keep its key rate at 9.0%, striving to hold inflation rate close to its 5.0% target.
The central bank has projected 5.2% inflation in 2017 and 4.9% in 2018.
Moldova's consumer prices rose by 6.4% in 2016, after increasing by 9.7% in the previous year.
