July 10 (SeeNews) - Moldova posted an annual consumer price inflation of 4.4% in June, down from 4.6% in the previous month, the National Bureau of Statistics, BNS, said on Wednesday.
The main inflation driver of inflation in June were food prices, which rose 7.3% year-on-year, BNS said in a statement.
Prices of non-food products rose by 4.4% on the year in June, while services edged down 0.3%.
Month-on-month, Moldova's consumer prices edged down by 0.2% in June . Food price appreciated by 1.1%, while non-food prices grew 0.5%. Consumer prices in the services sector edged up by 0.2% month-on-month.
Moldova’s central bank, BNM, BNM revised upwards its 2019 inflation projection by 0.2 percentage points (pp) to 5.1% last month. In 2020, consumer prices are expected to rise by 6.5%, as much as the central bank projected in February.
On June 20, BNM decided to increase its key rate to 7.0% from 6.5%, aiming to keep inflation close to the target level.
