November 16 (SeeNews) - The number of tourists staying in Moldova rose by 7.7% on the year in the first nine months of the year, reaching 289,795 the country's statistical office said on Friday.
As much as 27.9% of 117,507 foreign tourists who visited the country during January-September, arrived from Romania, 11.4% came from Ukraine, while Russian tourists accounted for 8.4%, the statistical office, BNS, said in a statement.
Tourists booked 1.37 million overnights in Moldova during the first nine months, up 9.1% on the year. Foreign tourists booked 246,444 overnights, a rise of 12% on the year.
During January-September, the average length of stay of a Moldovan tourist in the accommodation facilities in the country was 7.5 days, while foreign tourists stayed for 3.1 days on average.
In 2017, the number of tourists staying in Moldova rose by 10.1% on the year to 337,207.
