August 2 (SeeNews) - The combined after-tax profit of Moldovan banks rose 12% on the year to 956.7 million lei ($53.2 million/45 million euro) in the first six months of 2017, data from the country's central bank, BNM, showed on Wednesday.
Eleven commercial banks operated in the country of 3.5 million people as at end-June. None of them reported a first-half loss, while the top five accounted for 93% of the total profit of Moldova's banking sector.
Moldovan banks' assets increased to 75.02 billion lei in the first half of the year from 72.9 billion lei at end-2016, according to BNM data.
