January 26 (SeeNews) - The after-tax profit of Moldovan banks amounted to 2.3 billion lei ($128 million/113 million euro) in 2021, compared to 1.5 billion lei in the previous year, the central bank, BNM, said on Wednesday.
The top five banks generated almost 90% of the total profit of Moldova's banking sector last year, BNM data showed.
The Moldovan banks' total assets increased to 118.5 billion lei at the end of 2021 from 103.8 billion lei a year earlier, according to BNM data.
Eleven commercial banks operated in the country of 2.6 million people at the end of December
Moldova Agroindbank was the largest bank at end-2021, with total assets of 37 billion lei, followed by Moldindconbank with 24 billion lei, Mobiasbanca-OTP Group with 16.8 billion lei, Victoriabank with 16.6 billion lei, and by ProCredit Bank with 5.17 billion lei worth of assets.
