CHISINAU (Moldova), November 9 (SeeNews) – A burst transit pipeline in Moldova carrying Russian gas to the Balkans will be repaired by Wednesday, the Moldovagaz utility said, adding supplies to the Balkans were unaffected by the blast.
A section of the pipeline located some 70 kilometres southeast of Moldova’s capital Chisinau burst at 0235 GMT on Sunday, cutting supplies to 34 Moldovan villages and towns. Gas transit to the Balkans remained unaffected because supplies were redirected via another pipeline on Moldovan territory, Moldovagaz said in a statement on Sunday.
Gas supplies to the disconnected Moldovan villages and towns will be fully restored by November 15.
Russian gas reaches Turkey, Greece and Macedonia via transit pipelines stretching across Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria.
Russian gas supplies to the Balkans fell by 40% in April, when a pipeline burst in Moldova’s separatist region of Transdniestria, some 60 kilometres southeast of Chisinau.
