April 23 (SeeNews) - Moldovan authorities will gradually relax the restrictions imposed in order to contain the spread of the new coronavirus disease, starting April 27, president Igor Dodon said.
"On Friday, April 24, after a meeting with the prime minister and other ministers involved in the fight against COVID-19, we will come up with accurate information on the sectors that will return to normal activity, starting April 27," Dodon said in a post on social media on Wednesday evening.
According to Dodon, every two weeks, authorities will make new decisions on the matter depending on the based on the number of coronavirus cases.
"Keep in mind, if there will be an increase in new coronavirus infections, then the restrictions will be reintroduced," Dodon stressed.
According to the Moldovan president, the health ministry is planning massive testing in areas of major coronavirus outbreaks across the country and currently has some 100,000 test kits in stock.
So far, a total of 14,055 tests have been carried out.
As of Wednesday evening, coronavirus cases in the country have increased to 2,778 from 2,548 a day earlier. Most of the cases were registered in Chisinau (810), Soroca (243) and Stefan Voda (225), the health ministry said.
So far, Moldova has registered 76 deaths from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), while 661 people have recovered.
Some 39,006 people are in self-isolation.
Since March 23, Moldova's emergency situations committee has banned people older than 63 years from leaving their home except to go to work, buy medicines or food or walk their pets.
On March 17, Moldova's parliament declared a countrywide state of emergency until May 16.
On Wednesday, neighboring Romania announced that the authorities will start easing the coronavirus restrictions as of May 15.
