February 14 (SeeNews) - Japan's Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems has started the construction of a flue gas desulphurisation unit at Serbia's thermal power plant Nikola Tesla A, state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) said.
EPS will invest 167 million euro ($188.1 million) in the construction of the desulphurisation facility, which will service units A3, A4, A5 and A6 of Nikola Tesla A and will extend the service life of the power plant by at least 20 years, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.
"The deadline for construction of the desulphurisation unit is 42 months, followed by a warranty period and trial operation of 12 months," the managing director of EPS, Milorad Grcic said during the bricklaying ceremony of the unit.
EPS signed the contract for the construction of the flue gas desulphurisation unit with Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems in September 2017. The project will be implemented by a consortium of Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Japan's Itochu and Serbian blue-chip construction company Jedinstvo [BEL:JESV], EPS said back then.
The Serbian government is financing the project with a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) agreed in 2011.
