October 5 (SeeNews) - Microsoft said on Friday it has opened a cloud technology lab at West University in Timisoara, Romania.
The Cloud-Enabled Laboratory features a minimal hardware infrastructure of access points to cloud resources, Microsoft said in a press release.
"West University is the first university in Romania into which Microsoft is implementing this laboratory - precisely because of the learning and progress desire of students and teachers, which we have always observed and appreciated in our partnership with this university," Microsoft Romania education director, Marilena Ionascu, said.
Laboratory users will have access to scalable virtual infrastructures based on their projects needs, counting on a processing power of up to tens of thousands of CPUs. They will be able to create and test artificial intelligence, machine learning algorithms, simulate any test environment on virtually any platform or operating system, store and manage virtually unlimited data volumes, and last but not least, develop new applications and platforms.
"We are doing everything possible to keep up with the changes in technology, and the best way is to work with the big names in the industry. According to statistics, by 2030, some 80% of current jobs may not exist, with new ones emerging. That is why we are working hard to prepare young people for the future jobs. We offer them a rich bag of skills to help them cope with an extremely changing labour market," West University rector Marilen Gabriel Pirtea said.
Microsoft is present in Romania since 1992 and currently has 1,300 employees in the country.
