February 11 (SeeNews) - An unnamed Malaysian investor is seeking to obtain an investment certificate for its project to build a logistics park in the Bulgarian city of Ruse - a major transport hub on the Danube, and develop the local airport, Bulgarian media reported on Tuesday.
The company's investment plans were supported by a majority of the members of the municipal council of Ruse, public radio BNR reported.
The investment certificate will provide the company with access to fast-track administrative services.
"Ruse should develop as a city with all modes of transport and the airport is an absolute necessity for us," BNR quoted Ruse mayor Pencho Milkov as saying.
Ruse airport, built in 1967 as a military airport, is located some 17 kilometres from the city which is connected to Romania's Giurgiu on the opposite bank of the Danube by a road and rail bridge.
In August last year, the same investor also proposed to build a second bridge over the Danube near Ruse, and a highway connecting Ruse to the city of Veliko Tarnovo located some 100 km to the south, according to BNR.
