BELGRADE (Serbia), August 23 (SeeNews) – China's largest construction company and a major Chinese zinc producer plan to open factories in Serbia, Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday.
A Chinese company which holds 20% of the global zinc market has picked a location for the construction of a factory with 500 employees in Zrenjanin, in northern Serbia, Vucic said in comments aired live by Serbian broadcaster Radio Beograd 1.
"[The zinc producer] has chosen a location here in Zrenjanin, so a further 500 people will get employed," Vucic said during a meeting with Wang Feng, chairman of Chinese tyre manufacturer Shandong Linglong which plans to invest $994.4 million (859.9 million euro) in the construction of a tyre factory in Zrenjanin.
The largest construction company in China, with a profit equal to four times the gross domestic product (GDP) of Serbia, will also build a factory in the country, Vucic said.
"Mr. Wang has promised that at least three more companies will come to Serbia," he added. He disclosed no names.
China State Construction Engineering (CSCE) is the largest construction company in China, with a revenue of $144.5 billion (125 billion euro) in 2017, according to data from the Global 500 ranking of US magazine Fortune.
One of the largest global zinc producers, Zijin Mining Group, is reportedly among the bidders in a tender for a strategic partner of Serbian state-owned copper mining and smelting company RTB Bor.
