December 12 (SeeNews) - The number of tourists staying in Macedonia rose 5% on the year to 770,580 in the first ten months of 2016, the country's statistics office said on Monday.
The number of overnights spent by tourists in the period January-October edged up 2.7% year-on-year to 2.28 million.
Domestic tourists numbered 312,926, up 5.3%, whereas international visitors increased 4.8% to 457,654.
In October alone, the total number of tourists staying in Macedonia rose 12.6% year-on-year to 69,412, while overnights increased 9.3% to 155,719.
The number of domestic tourists in October rose 12.3% to 23,787, whereas international tourists visiting Macedonia increased to 45,625, up 12.8%.
Of the total number of foreign tourists in October, 19.2% came from Turkey. Greece followed with 12.1%, and Serbia came in third with 7.8%.
