July 12 (SeeNews) - The number of tourists in Macedonia rose by an annual 11% to 258,918 in January-May, data from the country's statistics office showed on Tuesday.
The number of nights spent by tourists in the first five months increased 12.2% on the year to 536,084 data published on the stats office's website indicated.
Domestic tourists numbered 86,740, up 12.5% from the like period of 2015, whereas foreign tourists increased by an annual 10.4% to 172,178.
In May alone, the number of tourists in Macedonia rose 5.1% on the year to 86,234, while the number of nights spent by tourists ticked up 0.8% to 172 355.
The number of domestic tourists in May rose by an annual 1.4%, and the number of foreign tourists added 6.7%.
On a monthly basis, the number of tourists jumped 50.1% in April.
Out of the total number of foreign tourists in May, 37.4% came from Turkey, followed by Serbia with an 6.7% share, and Bulgaria with 5.9%.
