SKOPJE (Macedonia), January 9 (SeeNews) – The Macedonian competition watchdog said that the company resulting from the planned merger of the Macedonian units of Telekom Slovenije [LJE:TLSG] and Telekom Austria Group will be named one.Vip.
Telekom Austria’s unit in Macedonia, Vip Operator, and Telekom Slovenije’s unit, ONE, signed a deal on their merger on December 30.
The new telecommunication company will be controlled by mobilkom Mazedonien Beteiligungsverwaltung, part of Telekom Austria, the competition protection commission said in a notice posted on its website on Thursday.
The commission also said that any comments on the planned business concentration should be filed within ten days after the publishing of the relevant notice after which it will take a final decision on the merger.
In October, Telekom Slovenije and Telekom Austria Group said they had agreed to merge their Macedonian units with the Slovenian telco getting a 45% share in the merged company and the Austrian partner holding a 55% stake.
The agreement also includes call and put options for the exit of Telekom Slovenije from the joint venture within three years from closing of the merger.
Vip Operator and ONE compete on the mobile segment in Macedonia with T-Mobile Macedonia, a unit of Magyar Telekom. Macedonia has a population of around 2.0 million.
