SKOPJE (Macedonia), November 3 (SeeNews) – Macedonia’s Jugohrom Ferroalloys has cut production by half in line with government pollution preventive regulations, the government in Skopje said.
Jugohrom, which has now reduced gas emissions by 60%-70%, has been given two years to meet rigid ecological standards and obtain an integrated ecological permit, Macedonia's government said in a statement on Saturday, quoting deputy prime minister Vladimir Pesevski.
Jugohrom, which operates seven furnaces and has 1,250 workers, is based near the city of Tetovo, in the country's northwest.
At the end of October, Macedonia's biggest industrial polluter, according to the government, steel mill Makstil [MSE:STIL], halted operations on its steelworks due to the installation of new filtration equipment aimed at meeting European Union environment-protection standards.
