April 25 (SeeNews) - Macedonia's gross electricity production jumped 29.5% to 592,391 MWh in February, the office of national statistics said on Tuesday.
Net power output rose 31.7% in February to 554,803 MWh, while final electricity consumption grew 11.4% to 560,591 MWh, the statistical office said in a monthly report.
Thermal power plants contributed the largest portion of February's gross domestic electricity production, or 358,680 MWh, up 6.6% on the year. Combined heat and power plants and auto production thermal power stations followed with 125,017 MWh, compared to just 6,656 MWh in the same month of 2016.
Electricity generated by hydropower plants totalled 97,728 MWh, falling 6% on the year.
Energy produced by wind parks declined 3.4% to 6,036 MWh, whereas power solar plants generated 1.2% less electricity, or 1,367 MWh. Biogas plants' output jumped 39.9% to 3,563 MWh.
Macedonia imported 156,016 MWh in February, and exported 33,212 MWh. In February 2016, the country imported 191,036 MWh and imported 2,665 MWh.
Distribution losses rose by 14.% to 106,972 MWh.
Domestic production covered 82.2% of the country's needs.
