March 2 (SeeNews) - A strike at Macedonia's railway operator that has blocked railway traffic for almost two weeks ended on Thursday after workers received their delayed January wage payments, local media reported.
The wages were paid in two instalments, on Wednesday and Thursday, and the striking employees returned to work, state-owned news agency MIA said. State-owned railway operator Makedonski Zeleznici Transport agreed with the workers that their February wages will be paid by the end of March, MIA added.
During the protest action, the general director of Makedonski Zeleznici Transport Nikola Kostov resigned.
Last week, Macedonia's government decided to extend an additional subsidy of 70 million denars ($1.2 million/1.14 million euro) for 2017 to Makedonski Zeleznici Transport, local media reported.
