August 23 (SeeNews) - Macedonia's prime minister Zoran Zaev said the government has never given instructions to carry out any counter-intelligence activities against or on behalf of any neighbouring country, including Serbia, Serbian media reported on Wednesday.
"Let me be clear: in our politics, there is no strategy and policy at the expense of Serbia. We are committed to strengthening the bilateral relations with our neighbour, the Republic of Serbia," Serbian daily Blic quoted Zaev as saying.
Zaev will speak by phone with Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic on Wednesday, Blic said.
"I hope that during the talks with Vucic we will resolve all possible misunderstandings," Zaev said.
Earlier this week, Serbia's government said it has called back the entire staff of the country's embassy in Skopje after reports that the Macedonian government plans to vote in support of Kosovo's membership of the UN cultural agency UNESCO.
Skopje-based media on Monday quoted the Macedonian government as saying that it will join most EU member states in the vote on Kosovo's UNESCO membership.
Serbia does not recognise the independence of Kosovo.
