May 9 (SeeNews) - Luxembourg's flag carrier Luxair and To Montenegro were the only bidders in a tender by Slovenia's infrastructure ministry for establishing new routes or increasing the frequency of existing flights in the country, local media reported.
Slovenia's infrastructure ministry announced a public tender at the beginning of April and interested carriers can submit applications in the tender until May 4, public broadcaster RTV reported on Monday.
The government plans to subsidise 50% of airport fees at the international airports of Brnik, Maribor and Portoroz for carriers that will establish flights to Brussels, Skopje, Prague, Berlin, Vienna, Copenhagen, Athens, Madrid, Amsterdam or Helsinki.
In January, Slovenia's parliament approved legislation providing air carriers with 5.6 million euro ($6.2 million) in financial aid per year for a period of three years.
A total of ten airlines applied in a similar tender worth about 1.83 million euros, namely Deutsche Lufthansa, Swiss International Air Lines, Brussels Airlines, Flydubai, Air Serbia, To Montenegro, Turkish Airlines, Easyjet, Wizzair and LOT.
