September 13 (SeeNews) - U.S. corporation Lockheed Martin is launching an investment in artificial intelligence (AI) research and development projects in Romania, the Romanian government said on Tuesday .
The results of the research that will be carried by Lockheed Martin's Research and Leadership Laboratory in Science, Technology and Engineering together with Romanian Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, will be applied in the fields of national security and in environmental sciences, the government said in a press release.
The amount of the investment was not disclosed.
"This is a new proof of the strengthening of the Romania-U.S. strategic partnership. (...) Industrial cooperation will create added value and can generate technological transfer necessary for the development of our economy," Romanian prime minister Nicolae Ciuca said following a meeting with Lockheed Martin international business vice president Raymond Piselli.
In May, Romania's economy ministry said that Lockheed Martin is looking to conclude partnerships with the Romanian state for investments in the aeronautical industry.
Lockheed Martin Corporation is a U.S. aerospace, arms, defense, information security, and technology corporation with worldwide interests. It was formed by the merger of Lockheed Corporation with Martin Marietta in March 1995.
