August 3 (SeeNews) - Croatian state-owned company LNG Hrvatska has extended the deadline for submitting binding offers in a tender for capacity at the planned liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on the island of Krk, it said.
The initial August 3 deadline has been extended until September 28 at the request of interested terminal users, LNG Hrvatska said in a statement on Thursday.
It noted that interested users are still in negotiations with potential LNG suppliers.
The LNG project is planned to be implemented in two phases, which envisage the construction of a floating terminal and a land-based terminal, respectively.
Earlier this year, the Croatian government declared the project strategically important in order to speed up its implementation.
In December, the EU issued a 101.4 million euro ($117.6 million) grant for the construction of a LNG terminal on the island of Krk. The European Commission said at the time that the LNG terminal will first operate as an offshore floating storage and regasification unit with a yearly capacity of at least 2.0 billion cubic metres.
LNG Croatia is the company responsible for the development of LNG import terminal project on the island of Krk, in the North Adriatic. The proposed project will include the building and operating of the infrastructure necessary for receiving, storing, reloading and regasification of liquefied natural gas.
