June 7 (SeeNews) - Slovenia's Ljubljana airport expects to handle about 1.2 million passengers in 2023, up 23% on an annual basis, local media reported.
The airport hopes to reach the pre-pandemic level of passenger traffic in 2026, news agency STA quoted Fraport Slovenia managing director Babett Stapel as saying on Tuesday.
"According to our estimates, traffic at the Ljubljana airport is on a very good path to full recovery, as evidenced by the results of the first four months of this year," Stapel said on the sidelines of a news conference of the Slovenian-German Chamber of Commerce in Ljubljana.
Passenger traffic at the airport increased to 296,494 in the first four months of 2023, up 51% on the year. Aircraft takeoffs and landings grew 5.6% on the year to 6,272 in the January-April period, while cargo traffic went down by 7.6% to 3,841 tonnes.
In 2022, passenger traffic at Ljubljana airport more than doubled to 970,152 from 421,934 in the previous year.
