July 12 (SeeNews) - Passenger traffic at Ljubljana airport has increased 20.8% year-on-year to 722,943 in the first six months of 2017, Germany’s Fraport Group, which operates the airport in Slovenia's capital, said on Wednesday.
Aircraft takeoffs and landings at Ljubljana airport rose 8.0% on the year to 16,315 in the January-June period, while cargo traffic expanded 13.0% to 5,655 tonnes, Fraport said in a data release.
In June alone, Ljubljana airport serviced 156,092 passengers, up 15.0% on the year. Aircraft movements increased 1.6% to 3,280 and cargo traffic rose by 18.7% to 1,043 tonnes.
In 2016, passenger numbers at Ljubljana airport decreased 2.3% to 1,404,831.
In September 2014, Fraport signed a deal to acquire 75.5% of the company that operated Ljubljana airport and later increased its share to 100%.
Elsewhere in Southeast Europe, the German company also operates the airports in the Bulgarian Black Sea cities of Varna and Burgas.
