August 15 (SeeNews) - Ljubljana international airport expects to have its new passenger terminal completed and opened in 2020, increasing its processing capacity in departure to 1,250 passengers per hour from 500 at present, it said.
The airport in the Slovenian capital, operated by Germany’s Fraport Group, launched a project to adjusts its basic infrastructure to the current needs of traffic growth in 2017, Ljubljana airport said in its sustainability report published last week.
A further expansion of terminal is envisaged after the year 2030, based on an air traffic forecast.
Ljubljana airport expects to reach 2.2 million passengers in 2025 and roughly 40,000 air traffic movements, it added.
Nearly 1.7 million passengers travelled via Ljubljana airport in 2017, up 20% on the year, while cargo traffic expanded 23% to 24,000 tons.
Fraport Slovenija, which used the name Aerodrom Ljubljana until April 2017, is the operator of Ljubljana airport, the central Slovenian international airport, which provides 97% of the total air passenger traffic in the country. It has been owned by Germany's Fraport AG since 2014.
