March 29 (SeeNews) - Montenegro's state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG) [MNG:EPCG] has said it expects a consortium of Slovenian company Litostroj and Swiss-based ABB to complete the replacement of a second turbine at Piva hydropower plant (HPP) by the end of March.
"By the end of this month, another turbine will be put into operation, the second according to the agreed order of reconstruction and modernisation works. In the continuation of the project, the installation and commissioning of the remaining third unit will be completed later this year," EPCG said in a statement on Monday.
In August 2018, EPCG signed a 10.3 million euro ($11.3 million) contract for the overhaul of the Piva HPP with the Litostroj - ABB tie-up. The power plant will receive modern equipment for all of its three turbines and state-of-the-art power management system, which will enable automatic control of all components, EPCG said back then.
HPP Piva is equipped with three helical turbines with a vertical shaft and produces an average of 737.25 GWh of electricity per year.
