June 3 (SeeNews) - The Romanian unit of online food delivery platform foodpanda said on Wednesday that the number of its listed restaurants rose by 1,000 to 3,000 in the last three months.
The increase came after foodpanda Romania added 90% of Uber Eats Romania-listed restaurants in Bucharest, Timisoara and Iasi, it said in a press release.
Uber Eats Romania, a food delivery unit of U.S.-based online transportation network company Uber Technologies, announced in May that it is discontinuing operations in Romania as of June 3. The decision was the result of Uber’s ongoing strategy to be in first or second position in all Eats markets by leaning into investment in some countries while exiting others.
foodpanda said that it has also employed some of the operational team members of Uber Eats Romania and is currently negotiating with other employees.
"With the withdrawal of Uber Eats from the Romanian market, restaurants need to continue their activity in the delivery area, and customers who appreciated the restaurants in the Uber Eats offer to be able to continue to order your favorite dishes. Currently, over 90% of restaurants listed on Uber Eats in Bucharest, Timisoara and Iasi are in the foodpanda offer, and our team is working on the enrollment of all restaurants that are not already on our platform," foodpanda Romania managing director Andreea Petrisor said.
foodpanda.ro is currently collaborating with over 3,000 restaurants in 24 Romanian cities.
At the beginning of May, foodpanda started to deliver coffee from over 40 partner cafes in Bucharest and said it plans to expand the service to cities like Cluj-Napoca, Iasi or Timișoara.
The unit is part of Germany-based Delivery Hero Group which operates in more than 40 markets worldwide.
