PRISTINA (Kosovo), January 24 (SeeNews) – Kosovo's trade deficit increased by 12.4% year-on-year to 2.66 billion euro ($3.26 billion) in 2017, the country's statistical office said on Wednesday, citing preliminary figures.
Exports increased to 378 million euro from 309 million euro in 2016, while imports rose to 3 billion euro from 2.7 billion euro.
In December alone, Kosovo's trade deficit increased by 9.9% year-on-year to 267 million euro, the statistical office said in a monthly economic report.
Exports increased 20.2% year-on-year to 28.4 million euro in December, while imports increased 9.5% to 297.3 million euro.
Kosovo's main export destinations in December were Albania, Macedonia, Serbia, and India. Base metals, mineral products, plastic products, as well as food, beverages and tobacco were Kosovo's main export items.
Mineral products, machinery, food, beverages and tobacco, base metals and transport means made up the bulk of Kosovo's imports in December. Most of the imports originated in Serbia, China and Turkey.
