March 27 (SeeNews) - Kosovo's trade deficit grew 7% year-on-year to 299.6 million euro ($325.4 million) in the first two months of the year, the country's statistical office said.
Exports dropped 2.6% on the year to 45.1 million euro in the January - February period, while imports increased 5.7% to 344.8 million euro, the statistical office said in a monthly trade report published on Friday.
In February alone, the trade gap rose 2.7% to 174.2 million euro, with exports falling 1.6% on the year to 23.7 million euro and imports up 2.2% to 197.9 million euro.
Kosovo's main export destinations in February were Albania, Macedonia, India, Switzerland and Serbia. Base metals, mineral products, and plastic products were Kosovo's main export items.
Mineral products, food, beverages and tobacco, machinery, appliances and electric materials, made up the bulk of Kosovo's imports in February. Most of the imports originated from Serbia, Germany, China and Turkey.
