September 8 (SeeNews) - Kosovo's president Hashim Taci said he has entrusted war veteran Ramush Haradinaj with the task of forming government following three months of political deadlock after the parliamentary elections on June 11.
"Today I gave the mandate for the formation of new Kosovo government to Ramush Haradinaj who has established the necessary parliamentary majority," Thaci said in his Twitter profile on Thursday.
The appointment of Haradinaj is subject to vote by Kosovo's parliament, which will most likely be held on Saturday, Haradinaj said during a news conference on Thursday, according to a statement posted on the website of the parliament on Thursday.
Haradinaj's Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) party has formed a coalition with Thaci's Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and The Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA). Earlier this week, the coalition signed an agreement with the New Alliance for Kosovo (AKR) party, led by tycoon Behgjet Pacolli, securing 62 of the 120 seats in parliament.
The PDK-AAK-Nisma coalition led by former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders Kadri Veseli, Ramush Haradinaj and Fatmir Limaj, was backed by 245,627 voters out of 747,228 who went to the polls on June 11, a turnout of 41.30%, according to data of the Central Election Commission (CEC).
Earlier on Thursday, the parliament elected Veseli as its speaker with 62 votes in favour.
