September 7 (SeeNews) - Kosovo's railway infrastructure operator INFRAKOS has invited bids for the overhaul of a 148 km railway section from the border with Serbia to the border with Macedonia, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development said on Thursday.
State-owned INFRAKOS intends to use part of the proceeds of a EBRD loan for the upgrade of the section, according to a procurement notice published on the EBRD website.
The project, with an estimated cost of 196 million euro ($235.2 million), will be implemented in three phases. It consists of rehabilitation and upgrading works of the following sections: Fushe Kosove – border with Macedonia, Fushe Kosove – Mitrovice and Mitrovice – border with Serbia.
The pre-qualification for tendering for the first phase is expected to launch at the of the third quarter of 2017.
The section under review is part of Rail Route 10, which is a 252 km long railway line linking Kraljevo in Serbia with Gorce Petrov in Macedonia via Kosovo.
