PRISTINA (Kosovo), February 12 (SeeNews) – Kosovo's insurance companies posted a net loss of 2.8 million euro ($3.1 million) last year, compared to a net profit of 3.0 million euro in 2018, central bank figures showed.
Kosovo insurers' gross written premiums increased to 99.2 million euro at the end of 2019, from 92.1 million euro a year earlier, according to data published by the central bank on Monday.
Gross written premiums from non-life insurance totalled 95.7 million, up from 89.1 million euro, while life insurance premiums increased to 3.5 million euro from 3.0 million euro.
Total gross claims paid increased to 55.1 million euro last year from 42.8 million euro at the end of 2018.
The assets held by Kosovo insurance companies increased to 193.9 million euro last year, from 177.3 million euro in 2018.
The 2019 figures comprise data for 13 insurance companies operating in Kosovo, down from 14 in 2018.
