PRISTINA (Kosovo), May 8 (SeeNews) – Kosovo has agreed 100 million euro ($119.3 million) cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to support urban renewal, the bank said on Tuesday.
“A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed at the EBRD’s Annual Meeting in Jordan by EBRD President Suma Chakrabarti and Kosovo Finance Minister Bedri Hamza,” EBRD said in a statement.
The agreement focuses on updating waste, heating and transport services, with up to half of the funds reserved to finance the construction of new wastewater treatment plants in the cities of Gjilan and Mitrovica.
The MoU prioritises cooperation in areas such as water and wastewater services, solid waste management, district heating, urban transport, including road infrastructure, fleet renewal and street lighting.
“Other areas of focus include energy efficiency improvements for public buildings such as schools, hospitals and administrative buildings, and support in the development and implementation of Green City Action Plans.”
According to the document, Kosovo's finance ministry will identify investment projects in the municipal and environmental infrastructure sector and put them forward for EBRD financing. The bank will also support project scoping, seek grant funding from donors and support project preparation.
