January 23 (SeeNews) - Serbia's government said on Monday it will receive an 8.5 million euro ($9.2 million) grant from German development bank KfW for the construction of the fourth section of the Trans-Balkan Electricity Corridor in the country.
Part of the transmission line will connect Bajina Basta, in western Serbia, to the Montenegrin border. another part will link Serbia to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the government said in a press release.
The construction of the 83-kilometre long section will begin in 2026, following the completion of the third section connecting Kraljevo to Bajina Basta.
The EU will donate 10.5 million euro towards the cost of the project, while power grid operator Elektromreza Srbije (EMS) will contribute 4.5 million euro, the EU's ambassador to Serbia, Emanuele Giaufret, said in the press release.
A total of 120 kilometers of the Trans-Balkan Corridor on Serbian territory have already been built, from Pancevo to the border with Romania and from Kragujevac to Kraljevo, Serbia's energy minister, Dubravka Djedovic, said.
The Trans-Balkan Corridor is a regional power network connecting the electricity transmission systems of Bosnia, Montenegro and Serbia with Croatia, Hungary, Romania and Italy through 400 kV overhead lines and submarine cables.
