May 11 (SeeNews) - Greek toy retailer Jumbo said that its sales in Bulgaria rose by 24% year-on-year in the January-April period, while sales in Romania increased by an annual 20% in a post-pandemic rebound.
In April alone, Jumbo's sales from Bulgarian operations grew by 7% on the year, compared to 8.45% for the group as a whole, the company said in a trading update.
Sales by the Romanian store network, meanwhile, were up 4% on April 2022.
Jumbo's overall sales in the first four months of 2023 added 25% on the year. The Greek group reiterated its expectations of a sales growth of 15% this year, as it does not see the high double-digit sales growth rate of the initial four months as sustainable throughout 2023.
Jumbo operates nine stores in Bulgaria and 16 in Romania, where it plans later this year to roll out online sales as well as another owned hyper-store in Iasi, eastern Romania, near the border with Moldova. The group generated sales of 949 million euro ($1.04 billion) in 2022, or 14.12% more than in the prior year.
