August 30 (SeeNews) - The Serbian arm of Japan Tobacco International (JTI) has invested 7 million euro ($8.1 million) in the launch of a new production line at its factory in Senta, in the country's north, the Serbian trade ministry said on Thursday.
In addition to the production line, JTI intends to invest in additional modernisation of machinery in the factory, as well as product innovation, the president of JTI, Yasutake Tango, said, as quoted in a statement by the trade ministry.
"Out of 27 factories, this is the most successful," Tango said.
JTI has invested $180 million since acquiring the factory in Senta in 2006 and tripled the number of employees to 290 from 84. The company exports the cigarettes produced in the Senta factory to Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Croatia and Albania.
