BELGRADE (Serbia), October 10 (SeeNews) - Japanese industrial refrigeration equipment manufacturer Mayekawa has opened a factory in Smederevo, in eastern Serbia, the city government said.

The factory has 33 employees who were trained in Belgium but the company plans to build two addtional production halls and increase its total workforce in Smederevo to 270 people, the city government said in a statement last week.

Mayekawa's factory is located in the Smederevo free trade zone and will be operated by the Japanese company's Serbian subsidiary Mayekawa SRB.

In April 2018, the general manager of Mayekawa Europe, Tsuyosi Hattandu, said the company plans to invest 2 million euro ($2.2 million) in the first phase of the development of the factory.

Mayekawa is active in the production of compressors, cooling systems, heat pumps, freezers and food robotics. In Europe, the company operates a factory in Belgium.
