June 13 (SeeNews) - Italian energy and telecom cable producer Prysmian Group inaugurated on Tuesday a new optical fiber cable plant in Slatina, in southern Romania, following a 25 million euro ($28 million) investment.
The 28,000 sq m plant is located in Slatina Milcov industrial park and is the largest of its kind in Europe, Prysmian said in a press release.
The launch of the new factory is part of a three-year 250 million euro investment plan aimed at improving the group’s production capacity and capabilities worldwide in order to meet the growing demand for optical cables for the deployment of new high-speed telecommunications networks, it added.
"These investments involve existing optical fibre and cable facilities in Italy, France, the Netherlands, North and South America, together with new plants like those in Slatina, Romania, Presov, Slovak Republic, and Durango, Mexico,” Prysmian Group COO Andrea Pirondini said.
