January 30 (SeeNews) - Italian biochemicals producer Novamont has signed a cooperation agreement for supporting Serbia's government in designing a circular bioeconomy model for the creation of agricultural systems with low environmental impact, the company said.
The five-year cooperation agreement will see Novamont engaged in supporting the design of a separate collection model of urban and agricultural waste and its subsequent implementation in one or more cities in Serbia, and in providing consultancy in the field of circular bioeconomy to the Serbian government, the Italian company said in a statement on Wednesday.
Subsequently, the collaboration may be extended to the implementation of industrial investments by Novamont and/or by companies belonging to its supply chain, the biochemicals producer said.
"Thanks to the pioneering actions in the field of bioeconomy, Novamont is a true demonstrator of the possibility of redesigning entire sectors starting from bioplastics and biochemicals. This collaboration with Serbia is a further step towards the multiplication of sustainable models and the creation of interconnected and innovative infrastructure," Novamont CEO Catia Bastioli said in the statement.
The agreement is part of the initiatives promoted by the Serbian government in order to harmonise the country's environmental protection legislation with the European Union rules, Novamont said.
Novamont is active in the production of bioplastics and in the development of biochemicals and bioproducts, with approximately 1,800 patents and a workforce of about 600 employees.
