March 16 (SeeNews) - Italian engineering company Maire Tecnimont SpA said that its unit Tecnimont SpA has signed a 200 million euro ($223.48 million) contract with Turkish fertilizer producer Gemlik Gubre Sanayi AS to build a new urea and UAN (Urea Ammonium Nitrate solution) plant in Gemlik, Turkey.
Under the contract, Techimont will execute the engineering, supply of all equipment and materials, and construction works related to the new facility, Maire Techimont said in a statement last week.
The project is expected to be completed within about three years.
The new production facility will have a capacity of 1,640 MTPD of granular urea and 500 MTPD of UAN. The plant will run on the technology of Stamicarbon, a fully owned subsidiary of Maire Techimont.
“We are extremely proud of this new achievement that confirms the Group leadership in the fertilizer sector and allows us to expand our geographical footprint in a strategic market such as Turkey,” Maire Tecnimont CEO, Pierroberto Folgiero, noted in the statement.
Gemlik Gubre is owned by Turkey's Yildirim Holding, which operates in a range of fields, including chemicals, logistics, metals and mining.
